A new charter school, Valley Arts and Science Academy (VASA), is opening on
8/20/07 for grades Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.  It is located at the
Ted C. Wills Community Center, 770 N. San Pablo, Fresno, CA. 

The school is geared towards the downtown working parents with early drop
off hours of 7:30 a.m. and afterschool activities until 5:30 p.m. (extra fee
paid to attend the afterschool program).  The actual school hours run from
approximately 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  It is a Title I public school,
although it is technically considered a charter. 

If you have a dependent child on your case load that may need a change of
schools, you may want to explore VASA.  To obtain an application, call
432-VASA (8272).  VASA will take a child no matter which district the child
resides in. 

The project director is Brad Huff who formerly served as the University High
School Principal.  The principal is Andra Christenson who was previously a
teacher with Bullard Talent.  The school vision is for students to be
proficient in reading and mathematics by employing a program rich in arts
and science.  Enrollment in the school is limited to 280 students the first
