[FAC] CSU Summer Arts Begins July 1

Celebrate July by attending the CSU Summer Arts Festival.  Our roster of high caliber professional artists includes an Emmy Award winner, internationally recognized theatre and visual artists, lead animators, and award winning photographers.  All events are reasonably priced including rates for students/seniors.  Tickets may be purchased at the box office, 559-278-5109, or by going online to www.csusummerarts.org

Sunday, July 1
nicholasleichterdance
Dance Performance
7pm – John Wright Theatre
Post-Event Reception
General Admission Seating: $15, students/seniors; $20 regular
Reserved Seating: $20, students/seniors; $25 regular
 
Slow and sensual, insistent and intertwined, athletic and aware, Nicholas Leichter’s dance pieces are filled with provocative pairings.  The New York Times wrote of Mr. Leichter’s choreography: “Kinetic and… the picture of fluidity.”
 
Monday, July 2
Trina Robbins
Comic Books/Graphic Novels Lecture
8pm – Conley Lecture Hall
General Admission Seating: $5, students/seniors; $7 regular
 
Cartoonist, writer, and historian, Trina Robbins, will discuss the history of early 20th century women cartoonists with a slide show and lecture titled  "The Great Women Cartoonists".
 
Tuesday, July 3
Fresno County Youth Choir
Choral Music Performance
8pm – Concert Hall
General Admission Seating: $5, students/seniors; $7 regular
Reserved Seating: $10, students/seniors; $12 regular
 
Under the direction of choir director Robert Bullwinkel, a group of high school and college students will present an evening of beautiful music.  
 
Thursday, July 5
Terry Zwigoff
Comic Books/Graphic Novels Lecture
8pm – Conley Lecture Hall
General Admission Seating: $5, students/seniors; $7 regular
 
Terry Zwigoff is a director, screenwriter, and producer who is linked to art house and critically acclaimed films such as the documentary Crumb, Ghost World, Art School Confidential (both based on comic books), and Bad Santa.  
 
Friday, July 6
Mabou Mines
Theatre Performance
8pm – John Wright Theatre
General Admission Seating: $15, students/seniors; $20 regular
Reserved Seating: $20, students/seniors; $25 regular
 
Mabou Mines is an avant-garde theatre company that emphasizes the creation of new work from either original texts or through the adaptation of existing (often classic) texts.  Tonight, the company will present Lucia’s Chapters, which follows writer James Joyce’s daughter Lucia on a journey through her imagined afterlife guided by her own “Chapters” or “Book of the Dead,” in search of final redemption.  
 
Saturday, July 7
A History of The Second City
Theatre Lecture
6:30pm – Wahlberg Recital Hall
General Admission Seating: $5, students/seniors; $7 regular
 
Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has a roster of alumni and company members that reads like a Who’s Who of modern and classic comedy, including John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Mike Meyers, Fred Willard, and Tina Fey.  Come and listen to some Second Citizens talk about the rich history of this group of comic geniuses.
 
Saturday, July 7
The Second City
Theatre/Comedy Performance
8pm – John Wright Theatre
Post Event Reception

Start the evening with a history of The Second City and wrap it up with a night of irreverent comedy.  Tonight, you’ll laugh until your sides ache and tears stream down your face.
