    Lively Arts Foundation presents the Tchaikowski Perm Ballet from Central
Russia, with 52 dancers and their own 50-piece ballet orchestra, Thursday,
April 3, 2008;  7:30 p.m. at the William Saroyan Theatre in Fresno. Almost
70 years ago, the Soviet Union evacuated its precious KIROV Ballet co. to
the modest-sized central Russian city of Perm, during the Nazi onslaught of
World War II.  The Kirov moved triumphantly back to Leningrad/St.Petersburg
after the war but Perm wasn't quite ready to go back to being just another
city in Russia. Building on its wartime tradition, PERM BALLET has over the
decades established itself as one of the world's foremost classical touring
companies, with its own celebrated ballet school and tradition. In 2006 the
great Kirov prima ballerina Natalia Makarova thrilled audiences world-wide
with her dazzling new take on Tchaikowski's tale of immortal love,
choreographing and directing a fully staged production of "SWAN LAKE",
showcasing Perm Ballet. Accompanied by full orchestra and featuring lavish
sets and costumes, Makarova's lovely production will visit Fresno's Saroyan
Theatre for the first time, during the company's 2007-2008 tour.(Note: Ms.
Makarova hasn't danced in several years, will not be accompanying her
production on this tour.) The newest generation of Perm danseurs and
ballerinas has earned world-wide rave reviews for their excitement and
artistry.  This is indeed one of the top 3 ballet companies in Russia today.
