HIP HOP CLASS READS BETWEEN THE LYRICS AT FRESNO STATE

Dr. Julius Bailey's students are learning about the economy, gender, religion and issues of sexuality -- but not text books. 

Instead, they are learning it through a modern form of poetry that grew out of the streets of Brooklyn in the second half of the 20th Century and has
inspired a worldwide cultural movement where experiences -- the good, the bad, the ugly -- have found a way to flourish. But yet those ideas are
seldom taken seriously -- or at least seriously enough to be explored in a university classroom all semester, as is the case at California State
University, Fresno. 

But Bailey is no ordinary teacher. And Hip Hop music is no ordinary form of poetry to him.

FRESNO IS PUNCHLINE IN SAN LUIS OBISPO APRIL FOOLS JOKE

If only we had a dollar for every time someone made a joke about Fresno. 
 As with the Prius ad ( lifestyle/prius-ad-to-laugh-or-not-to-laugh.php )  of a few months ago, and a host of other jokes that make Fresno look bad,
it turns out that even on April Fools, Fresno makes a useful punchline. 
 This time, the joke was on people living in San Luis Obispo, where a local radio show there decided to scare its crowd into thinking that Pismo Beach
was going to change its name to "Fresno Beach."
