May is the month of style; of sophistication. May is the month that
the Blender heads to Champlain and Perrin and the place where style,
sophistication and inspiration converge: Aqua Shi!
Along with Aqua Shi's commitment to serving excellent California-
Asian cuisine and maintaining extensive wine and sake lists is a
commitment to "serving inspired living" and we like that! Join us for
great conversations, complementary appetizers and lots of fun in a
space that includes a wall to wall waterfall, white birch trees and
aquarium (with live fish!) bar tops.
The Blenders, which take place on the Friday after ArtHop, are
Creative Fresno's social mixers of professionals, artists and
entrepreneurs whose exchange of ideas are an effort to revitalize the
urban life and landscape of the Fresno region.
When: Friday, May 2
Where: Aqua Shi - 1144 East Champlain Drive (Piazza del Fiore Center)
Time: 5 - 8 p.m.
Web: www.creativefresno.com
See you at the Blender!

The other day I walked over to Yoshi Now! to check out the mural that
I had heard was going up (some really good stuff!) and I was
fortunate enough to meet a couple of the artists (Christian Vargas
and Erik Beltran) involved in the mural's creation. They're really
cool guys and while we were talking about art and Fresno I found out
that they are going to have an ArtHop show to highlight the mural,
their other work as well as the work of some of their friends.
There's even going to be music!
I would strongly recommend making a stop at Yoshi Now! this coming
ArtHop (May 1st). I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Here is the info from their flyer:
Art Show May 1st at Yoshi Now! - 648 Broadway St. (SE corner of
Broadway and Mono)
Artists: Christian Vargas, Erik Beltran, Mycow, Creighton Geigle,
Samantha Lazcano, Robert Pero as (Bob Photography) and others
Bands: Style Like Revelators, Everything all of the time

Arts-related businesses in the country's largest cities represent 4.3
percent of all businesses and 2.2 percent of all jobs in the United States,
a new report from Americans for the Arts finds.
Based on data from Dun & Bradstreet and geo-economic analysis, the report,
Creative Industries 2008: The 50 City Report, finds that there are more than
612,000 arts-related businesses employing some 2.98 million people in the
United States, and that employment by arts-related businesses has grown 11.6
percent in the past year ? more than four times the increase in overall
employment growth.
Arts-related businesses and employees were found in each of the fifty
most-populated cities, with New York City topping both lists, while Seattle
and Atlanta were found to have the most arts-related businesses and
employees, respectively, per capita.
"This study supports our mantra that the arts play a significant role in
building and sustaining economically vibrant communities," said Robert L.
Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts. "It further supports the
need for arts education to fuel the creative industries with arts-trained
workers and arts consumers."
The Fresno Coalition for Arts, Science & History is conducting a Economic
Impact Study for Fresno County?s Cultural Arts organization to determine the
impact the arts makes locally. Funded through the Fresno Regional
Foundation, the Indian Gaming Committee/Fresno County, the City of Fresno
and the City of Clovis.
Data collection is expected to be complete by June with the results
available in October at the Second Annual Cultural Arts Conference.
