Penny Candy owner envisions grand Fresno auction to support artists

Penny Candy is a small brown box of a storefront on Blackstone Avenue in Fresno that is almost unnoticeable today. But inside, it's full of an uncounted number posters, vintage clothes, comic books
-- and a relatively small collection of items that its owner thinks unfairly has come to typify Penny Candy.

On Thursday it got a fresh coat of brown with the use of Redevelopment Agency funds for a facade improvement and paint donated by Sherwin Williams, including a new coat of the color "True Penny" on
her front door, said an employee of the paint company. But the recent activity at the store is just a facade itself. The store's owner has bigger plans for Fresno and wants to give the city one more
way to help change its own image.

It's called ePuddle.com ( http://www.epuddle.com ). More on that later in this story.

Rogue Festival 2008 launches fresh new Web site
The Rogue Festival, a non-curated, non-juried festival showcase of theatre, dance, music, puppetry. storytelling, spoken word, visual art and film, has launched a new Web site with comprehensive
details about the Festival's seventh annual event, where 100 percent of the box office's revenues go to the performers.
And this year, the festival is hoping the performances aren't just enjoyed by those in attendance -- they want bloggers to post updates from sites that provide blogging, such as LateUpdate.com (
http://lateupdate.com ).

Community hears plans for southeast Fresno Transit Village concept
The "Transit Village" concept got a public airing Wednesday in southeast Fresno, where dozens showed up to hear about the plans for an empty five acres on South Adler Avenue Kings Canyon Road.

Hmong and Spanish translators were on hand for the 60-plus attendants, some who left with mixed feelings about the project.

Plans call for an affordable, senior housing project set just behind a one-acre public park and a one-acre transit station for FAX buses.
