Who: The Center for Multicultural Cooperation presents

What: CALIFORNIA VOICES 1st Annual Community Premiere

When: Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 4:00 PM

Where: Fresno Veterans Memorial Theater, 2425 Fresno Street, Fresno, 93721
(across from the water tower in downtown Fresno)

Why: Youth from across the Central Valley have produced short documentary
films addressing issues in their community and profiling elders who have
made significant contributions to culture, community, and country.

 

Some of the short documentaries to be featured include:

*	Helen Coats, a Miwuk tribal elder, recalls growing up in Yosemite
Valley
*	Dick Johanson, recounts his time in the Marines and return to the
Valley
*	Charles Francis recalls the Great Depression, and his work with the
disadvantaged which led to his receipt of the Rosa Parks Award

 

The 12 Central Valley schools who will present their work at this premiere
are part of a larger effort which includes hundreds of students at 30 middle
and high schools throughout California.  

 

A post-screening reception will be held upstairs in the Fresno Youth
Empowerment Studio (2425 Fresno Street, Room 201), where the new
CaliforniaVoices.org website will be unveiled.
