Northern California Dance Collective's Summer Dance Camp, June 13-22, 2008
Love to dance? Want to check out a smorgasbord of new movement styles in a
community of open, friendly people? Like the idea of relaxing in a
beautiful, natural environment and eating gourmet vegetarian meals that you
helped prepare? Join us as we co-create a village of dancers of all ages at
the Northern California Dance Collective's Summer Dance Camp, Friday, June
13-Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Camp Hye Sierra near Kings Canyon National
Park, an hour east of Fresno. We offer daytime classes for adults in many
different movement and dance styles, taught by many of California's finest
teachers, including 5Rhythms, contact improvisation, authentic movement,
African dance, partner dance, yoga and breathwork, as well as many
opportunities for music, art, relaxation and random acts of creativity and
fun. What else? There's a great kids camp program; a lake for swimming,
boating and sunning; rockin' freestyle boogies most nights, along with
talent shows and drumming around the fire. There are also opportunities for
campers to lead daytime activities of their own design. Come for all nine
days or choose your own dates. Bring your friends and family and leave your
cares behind! Check http://ncdcdances.org for all kinds of background
information and details, including on-line registration. Call the NCDC
voicemail at 510-496-2722 for more information on the special community that
is NCDC!

Camp Fareta, July 6-13, 2008 Do you have a special love of or interest in
West African drum and dance? Then check out Camp Fareta this summer - a
West African drum and dance camp hosted by Youssouf Koumbassa. Master
dancers and drummers from Guinea, Senegal, and Mali will be gathering at
Camp Hye Sierra, an hour east of Fresno in the southern Sierras. There will
be at least three dance classes and two drum classes a day plus other
cultural events, a delicious international menu will be created by a former
Esalen chef (with help from our African friends!), and there's a kids
program as well. Check <http://dancingvillage.com/>
http://dancingvillage.com/ for more information and lots of photos from the
last two camps, or email campfareta at yahoo.com. Camp Hye Sierra, at 4,500
feet, has a lake for swimming and boating, hiking trails, a basketball
court, plus cabins for sleeping (or bring your own tent). The days are sunny
and warm and the nights are cool. Bring your friends and family and immerse
yourself in an amazing cultural experience!
