Does your organization or community run a festival or major event or is
thinking about doing one? Want to find out how to make it a huge success?
Then join us at the 10/17 Cultural Arts Conference for the Growing a
Festival Building Destinations and Driving Local Economies breakout
session.
Gary Gilligan, Director of the Mountain Mandarin Festival will share how to
raisins, peaches, cantaloupes and horned toads can attract huge audiences
and make great economic contributions to your city.
If the 30th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival took in $1.72 million promoting
garlic, what we could do some world-renowned raisins?

Presenters:
Gary Gilligan, the Mountain Mandarin Festival: When organizers in the tiny
foothills town of Newcastle, California held their first Mandarin Festival
15 years ago they never imagined that it would grow to the three-day event
that now attracts upwards of 35,000 people from throughout the West Coast.
This year¹s Mountain Mandarin Festival will expand from a weekend event to
include a half-day on Friday, will feature 225 vendors including Mandarin
Growers with fresh fruit, many gourmet food items, crafts, gifts, arts, home
decor, holiday goods and more. Each of the food vendors are required to
feature at least one mandarin orange menu item. Festival visitors not only
purchase Mandarins, but also buy gas, eat meals, stay in hotels and enjoy
the beauty of Placer County.
