The first occurrence of ArtHop on Reedley's G Street was successful.
Although the heat of the day caused a few of the artists and all of the
performers to cancel and probably kept some people from attending, it was a
good event none the less. We had a total of four showing artists and the
children's art area and face painting were utilized. I have found that
whenever there is an event where artists come together to show their art,
creativity, ideas, and wonderful things come from that. This event was no
different. Among all of the attendees during the event the following are
worth mentioning: There was a family who came to Reedley from Fresno to
experience the 'ArtHop - Family Date Night'. They perused all the art and
chatted with the artists. They walked down G Street and had dinner at the
Pub. Then headed off to Dinuba to catch a movie and were back at the park
to view the art and chat with the artists again before heading home.
There was a mom and three children, ages 5 and younger. The children
enjoyed the face painting, interactive kids art area, and the bounce house.
The mom viewed the art and had very nice conversations with the artists.
She was at the park for almost two hours. When she left she asked when the
next one would be and added that she would tell all her friends as she felt
the atmosphere and the concept was great. Her oldest said to her as they
were leaving, 'Is it over!?! Do we have to leave!?!'
One of the showing artists was a student at Reedley College and this was his
first ever showing of his work. He was nervous and a bit scared. He left
this event with confidence in himself and his art. He received many
compliments on his works and tons of advice from the other artists. He said
he would be back next month to show again.
An art student from Fresno City came to the event with his wife and 3 month
old daughter just to Chalk the Walk. His wife and daughter sat on a blanket
in the shade while he braved the hot cement to lay down his artwork. I am
sure his work is still there to see.
With all things considered, the turn out was a good one. Each event will
show a gain of attendees as more people become aware of it. All of the
participating artists and myself would like to say thank you for allowing
this event.
