Hello artists, patrons, supporters, and friends,

I am truly excited to announce an event that I believe is particularly
important to the arts and to tourism in our area. Madera County Arts
Council <http://www.maderaarts.org/> is offering a conference / workshop
at Evergreen Conference Center <http://www.conferencecenter.org/> in
Oakhurst on Thursday May 21st from 9 AM to 5 PM. The agenda includes an
exciting series of presentations, panels, round tables, networking
opportunities, artists displaying their work, and musical performance.

While Yosemite is considered the "crown jewel" that draws visitors to our
area, we have far more to offer, including arts, wineries, recreation,
history, and a wealth of natural resources. It is my hope that the
conference will become an annual event, and will offer a focal point for
collaboration, community involvement, and mutual support. It is up to us
to realize the full potential of our region. I encourage those of you
involved in the arts and / or interested in promoting our area as a cultural
and creative destination to set aside some time and attend.

Sincerely, Jon Bock, Sierra Art Trails <http://www.sierraarttrails.org> ,

Why Cultural & Heritage Tourism?
The National Trust's definition of cultural heritage tourism is "traveling
to experience the places and activities that authentically represent the
stories and people of the past and present. It includes historic, cultural
and natural resources." Linking tourism with the arts & cultural heritage
can do more for local economies than promoting them separately. When arts, &
cultural heritage tourism development is done right, it helps to protect
natural and cultural treasures and improves the quality of life for
residents and visitors alike.

Who Should Attend?
Artists, Arts Organizations, Historical Societies & Museums, Tourism
Professionals, Destination Management Organizations & Chambers of Commerce,
Lodging, Wineries & Restaurants, Tour Operators & Guides, City and County
Government, and others interested in making their community a tourism
destination.

Attendees will participate in a collaborative process designed to stimulate
the creation of an action plan for Arts & Cultural Heritage Tourism in our
communities.

For those involved with or interested in <http://www.sierraarttrails.org/>
