Wag Your Tails! "Reigning Cats and Dogs" Has Returned!
Artwork featuring our favorite pets, benefiting the Bakersfield SPCA
BAKERSFIELD --- So, who let the dogs out? We did! And the cats too! The Arts
Council of Kern is proud to announce the return of Reigning Cats and Dogs,
an exhibit benefiting the Arts Council and the Bakersfield SPCA. All the
works displayed will feature a cat or dog and will be for sale.
Artists have submitted their best artwork featuring our favorite furry
domestic pets. Art ranges from realistic to the modern, in every price
range. The exhibit is open to the public from November 13, 2009 to January
20, 2010, and a portion of all sales will benefit the Bakersfield SPCA and
their effort to help cats and dogs in need of a loving home.
Join the excitement of Opening Night on November 13, 2009, 5pm-7pm, at the
Younger Gallery, 1430 Truxtun, Suite 105. Cash prizes will be awarded to the
artists for Best Cat, Best Dog, and of course, Best of Show! Opening night
admission is $10 for Arts Council of Kern and SPCA members, and $15 for the
general public. Tickets can be purchased at the ACK office, 2000 K Street,
Suite 110, or at the Younger Gallery door on the night of the event.
We have received wonderful art from local Kern County artists. "Kern County
is extremely rich with local talent," says Jeanette Richardson Parks,
Executive Director of the Arts Council of Kern. "The Arts Council is looking
forward to showcasing their talent and helping the Bakersfield SPCA, too."
A variety of exciting public events are scheduled for the upcoming months
and further announcements will be made. As the weather become colder, the
Arts Council of Kern invites the public to bring new/used blankets to the
gallery for the SPCA. The blankets will be given to the cats and dogs in
outdoor kennels in need of warmth throughout the winter season. "This is an
opportunity for two distinguished non-profits to branch out of their normal
venues and highlight two important missions: art and pets in the community,"
says Chuck Nordstrom, SPCA Public Relations Coordinator.
Join us at the Younger Gallery at the opening reception, enjoy the Reigning
Cats and Dogs art, and help the Arts Council of Kern support the Bakersfield
SPCA.
