[FAC] art donations

E. Field-- you hit a nerve-- I am a local artist who is often asked to submit work for art auctions or to donate other arts services for free. I strongly object to artists being asked for "donations" and given "exposure" as compensation. I haven't figured out yet how to deposit "exposure" in my bank account. Also, artists can only deduct the cost of materials for income tax purposes. I've yet to really experience any positive outcome (read sales or other jobs) from a donation. When I do give a donation, I do so to an organization or group that I personally support and believe in, and I'm happy to give. But it's pretty clear when someone is just using the artists (designer, etc.). I agree that no one will take artists seriously or value their products unless we take ourselves seriously and ask that our work be given the value that it deserves. Would this corporation like to donate some free marketing hours to help me market my work? I'll tell all my friends about it and give them lots of exposure. Respectfully, Dixie Salazar
